Base Chemicals
Base Chemicals markets a broad portfolio of commodity chemicals globally. The business consists of three key divisions: Polymers, Solvents, and Explosives & Fertilisers (E&F).
Our key products include:
Polymers (polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride);
Solvents (ketones, alcohols, acrylates), chlor-alkali chemicals (caustic soda, hydrochloric acid) and mining reagents (cyanide);
Bulk and packaged explosives including specialised blasting accessories;
Ammonium nitrate base products; and
Sulphur derivatives.
To support our customers we operate a Polymer Technology Services Center that provides research and development relating to polymer-related applications. We also provide agronomic and product support to our fertiliser customers as well as full blasting service and product support to our mining industry customers.
ABOUT THE ROLE / PURPOSE OF THE JOB
- To manage the execution of all bulk, dry bulk, drummed and packaged product export activities in KZN
- To support exportation of products from Southern Africa to reach global markets for all Business Units
- To review export management strategies, reviewing existing procedures and examine opportunities to streamline processes and practices to continuously improve exports performance for Sasol export products
- To assist with the operational relationships with SARS, Transnet Port Terminals, Transnet National Port Authorities, Clearing and Forwarding agents, isotank operators and container shipping companies
- To comply with all legal/regulatory requirements regarding the export of products globally
FUNCTIONAL OUTPUTS
- Implements Marine export strategies and policies
- Oversees the operational execution of bulk, dry bulk, drummed and packaged product exports in KZN
- Responsible for checking of freight rates, export tariffs and duties and all other export related costs
- Drives continuous improvement of the export value chain for all products
- Assists in identifying optimization opportunities, gap analysis, redesign and implementation
- Ensures that product exports are executed in a manner which adheres to legal, safety and supplier requirements
- Exports bulk, dry bulk, drummed and packaged products in accordance with SAP design
- Ensures no exports are done outside of SAP
- Identifies incorrect master records and makes relevant corrections
- Ensures schedule adherence for activities that interface with external service providers, (like ports, shipping lines, customs, clearing and forwarding agents & customers) to find the best solution for Sasol product exports
- Ensures legal compliance on all export products (incl. excisable & customs products)
- Develops and fosters internal and external business relationships with all internal and external parties that are key to the export value chain
- Sasol Ambassador in all interactions with external stakeholders
- Ensures personnel are trained and competent to perform export functions as per Sasol policies and procedures
- Supports personnel development and growth for succession planning
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 (Must)
- Degree in Shipping Logistics (added advantage)
- National Diploma in Shipping Logistics
- Supervisory / Management qualification (Wish)
- Customs and Excise qualification (Wish)
Experience:
- 8+ years relevant experience in the bulk export or a similar work environment (Must)
- 4+ years’ supervisory or management (Must)
- Experience in managing the operational relationship with external service providers, shipping lines, isotank operators, National Ports, SARS and clearing and forwarding companies would be advantageous
